HiPer Technology recently showcased its innovative carbon fiber composite technology in its Tech3 performance ATV wheel. Co-developed with DuPont, HiPer uses the technology to deliver a wheel with superior strength and weight compared to a traditional cast wheel, and without the typical brittle qualities of traditional carbon fiber.

The HiPer Tech3 wheel uses a carbon fiber material that, at 44.5 kilopounds per square inch, is almost triple the strength of standard 6061-T2 aluminum. The carbon fiber composite also has a lower mass, allowing for thicker cross sections, which also add to overall strength.

HiPer’s carbon fiber composite allows for mild flexing under extreme loading and a return to its original shape because of its very high yield strength. It flexes without breaking. Conversely, 6061-T2 aluminum’s low yield strength leaves it susceptible to permanent deformations under the same conditions.

HiPer manufactures the Tech3 performance ATV wheel using this innovative carbon fiber composite and a proprietary thick wall injection molding process. The result is a wheel with the same weight as an aluminum equivalent, but with up to three times the strength.
